Train almost destroyed a town when engineer lost his mind

It was cold winter night on Jan 11 2004. When 504 freight train moving from volkhovstray 2 line in Russia's Saint Petersburg area
Even though everything seems to be alright but train was not able to start journey because train engineer Edward didn't reach on time for his shift on 11:00PM although his assistant Alexander on proper time after waiting for 15 minute. His assistant inform the management about Edward. On 12:15pm engineer reached on site and he excuse he overslept. They ere one hour late. Engineer's pre journey checkup done in hurry although it seems alright. Everything is fine nothing was out of routine except the uniform of driver. He was wearing a suit. He said he want to go on wedding after shift

His assistant notice another odd thing in Edward because he did not put tape on speedo meter which was against the rules but engineer convinced his partner and start the train at 12:45pm. Driver also broke big rule not to check braking system because they are behind the schedule
When they were about to hit the kukol station management give info about other train coming from same track and Alexander confirm info but Edward had other plans he didn't apply brake though he gave more speed. His assistant try to stop him but he was not listening at all he pushed his assistant back with physical harms. Driver said nothing he should do to prevent what is about to happen also driver switched off cabin signals and train passing station at high speed. No one can talk with two men inside cabin as radio had been turned off
Train was gaining speed and it reached 60 mph Alex couldn't able to do anything since Edward lost his mind everything changed at upcoming station. Valye station management came with idea to cut down power of tracks and when train cross that station it was start lossing speed
But train didn't stop but it start gaining more speed because it was going down from hill. after 2km train start climbing on hill it loses  momentum and finally stops. His assistant got a chance to escape from train and he complained about driver at near station. After some time train start running backwards because it was stop on upward hill. After 2km running backwards train stops and police came on site. They found driver was sleeping on floor. Police sent him to mental hospital for treatment 
Thanks to management team for clever thinking 
If train didn't stop it can be crashed into a town with 60000 population
